Maja Sommersted

Maja Sommersted

"As long as I can remember I have loved to draw, paint, sculpt, cut and create. Collage is so much fun because there are endless possibilities and less rules to follow; letting go and trusting your own creativity is very freeing."
Maja Sommersted was born in Denmark, and as a child lived in Africa and England before settling down in Colorado.

With art materials made readily available by her parents, and lots of visits to castles and museums in Copenhagen and London she developed an early appreciation for both the Old Masters as well as Modern.

Maja studied art in College, received the Bachelor degree in Art, and became certified to teach. She is a member of the Western Slope Center for the Arts, Artspace & Open Studios, as well as the Rocky Mountain Collage Society.

Her preferred mediums are oil, watercolor and collage. Her work has won several awards and is part of the East Morgan County Library’s permanent collection.
